Zambian football sleeping giant’s Kitwe United have qualified to the quarter finals of the 2017 Barclays cup after beating Monze Swallows 1 nil at Nkoloma Stadium. Last years quarter finalists Kabwe Youth Sports Academy also booked a place in the quarter finals as they beat National Assembly 5-4 on penalties.

The line-up for the quarterfinals has now been completed with Kitwe United and Kabwe Youth Academy joining the big boys in the country’s only cup competition.

Kitwe United scored their only goal through Emmanuel Chabusha in the 36th minute to send the Buchi boys into the quarterfinals where they will face Zesco United on September 27 on the Copperbelt.

Kabwe Youth Academy needed post match penalties to dump the parliamentarians out of the Barclays Cup with a 5-4 win on penalties after the match ended 2-2 in regulation time.

National Assembly had a flying start when Barnabas Nyirenda hit the back of the net in the ninth minute but Kabwe Youth Academy were back on level terms 14 minutes later through Amity Shamenda.

The two sides went to the break tied on 1-all but the parliamentarians went ahead again through Peter Chinyama with man of the match Daniel Chama pushing the match to penalties when he scrambled home in the 66th minute.
Lawrence Mulenga was the villain as his penalty came off the post with Kabwe Youth players striking home all their penalties.

In the quarter finals Zanaco will face Power Dynamos on September 23 while the following day Green Buffaloes will be up against Napsa Stars with Lusaka Dynamos squaring off with Kabwe Youth Academy at the same venue.

The fixture for Zesco United against Kitwe United will be played on Wednesday as the defending champions have a continental engagement on the weekend preceding the fixture.
