Senegal booked their place in the last 16 of the FIFA World Cup after beating Ecuador 2-1 in a thrilling encounter played at the Al Khalifa International stadium on Tuesday.
Goals from Captain Kalidou Koulibaly and Ismaila Sarr ensured victory for the Teranga Lions and Aliou Cisse. Senegal became the first African team to qualify to the round of 16 in Qatar.
The African Champions started on a frantic pace with Idrissa Gueye coming close in the 3rd minue but his attempt was wide of goal. Boulaye Dia nearly broke the deadlock but the big striker dragged his shot wide of goal.
Senegal took the lead just before half time with Ismaila Sarr converting from the penalty spot after he was fouled in the penalty area.
Moses Caicedo made things interesting when he equalized in the 68th minute but Senegal responded immediately with a well take goal to send the Lions fans into frenzy.
Senegal held on to finish second in Group A with six points behind table toppers the Netherlands and will now wit for their opponents from Group B.
