Defending champions, Mathare United condemned Muhoroni Youth to a 4-0 loss in a Kenya Premier League (KPL) U-20 Group A opener played on Saturday 17 December at the Camp Toyoyo.
Abdalla Ahmed broke the deadlock with a powerful header before he registered a brace in the 38th minute with David Ouma firing a third one into the net minutes after start of second half , adding his name again on score sheets later in the match.
Mathare had the first chance at goal as Jerome Mwanzo placed his shot just wide from a David Ouma cross few minutes after the kick off.
Muhoroni had their chance minutes later with Daniel Otieno’s effort being cleared by Mathare defender.
Paul Owuor thought to have opened the scoring in the 30th minute but his attempt hit the post before the ball was cleared out of danger zone.
Six minutes to the end of first half , Ahmed slotted home his second for the slum boys. Peter Wanyonyi brought in a cross which Muhoroni defence failed to clear allowing Ahmed to draw another blood.
Muhoroni failed to convert in the 44th minute from an Daniel Owino cross which Paul Owuor directed inches wide.
In the second half, Muhoroni made changes to perhaps try and find an equalizer enabling them press forward but failed to convert several chances.
Their inefficiencies were punished with David Owino’s shot after sending his marker to the wrong side to extend Mathare lead to 3-0.
Five minutes later,Daniel Owino shot missed by a whisker to go at the back of the net as the Muhoroni pressed on for the first goal.
David Owino registered a brace late in the second half to make it 4- 0
Muhoroni youngsters had few chances in latter stages but still could not find the a goal with three minutes of added time falling in their first match of the youth tourney.
