Stand in coach Francis Baraza led defending Kenyan Premier League champions Tusker to a 1-0 win against Nakumatt at Ruaraka grounds Wednesday.

Boniface Muchiri settled the tie off the bench in the 67th with the lone goal to give the former Sony and Chemelil coach his first taste of victory at the helm of the Brewers.

Baraza was stepping in for Ugandan George “Best” Nsimbe who was suspended yesterday for calling his squad old. Some sources confirm that Nsimbe has indeed been fired.

Tusker are chasing a respectable finish in the table standings after a dismal campaign this season.

They rise to third on the log on 46 points with five matches to go.

Meanwhile log leaders Gor Mahia, who thumped Kariobangi Sharks 3-1 yesterday in Kisumu are a point away from this year’s title and a record 16th overall.

K’Ogalo will face Ulinzi Stars in Kericho on Saturday and could be officially declared champions if they manage at least a draw against the Soldiers.

The match was initially scheduled for the Afraha Stadium, Nakuru Sunday but the venue has been secured for a political rally.
