Invincible Gor Mahia and Ulinzi Stars played out a barren draw in a Kenyan Premier League match that was billed as K’Ogalo’s crowning moment at Afraha Stadium on Sunday 13.
The result means Gor increase their points tally to 63 the maximum points second placed Ulinzi Stars can attain if they win all their remaining four games – with a goal difference of 26 between the two, the Soldiers are as good as out of the race for the 2015 crown and Gor are champions.
However, the 14 time champions will have to pick at least one point in their Wednesday match at hand against Western Stima to be officially pronounced 2015 Kenyan Premier League Kings.
The match at Afraha Stadium was a physical display from both sides with tackles flying from all corners – the two rivals created very few scoring chances between themselves. Ulinzi who resorted to pumping long balls forward hoping to find their strikers made it easy for tall Gor defenders who cleared them with ease.
The best opportunity for scoring in the entire match landed Gor’s way in the advanced stages of the game when Kenyan international Michael Olunga did well to beat his marker Geoffrey Kokoyo inside the box to set up Khalid Aucho whose shot from his favored left foot rolled out agonizingly wide.
Ulinzi had several shots towards goal but must were off the mark. While Gor Coach Frank Nuttal made no subs, Ulinzi tactician made a couple of them, bringing on Ezekiel Otuoma for Kevin Anwayi but his contribution was barely noticed.
Gor Mahia won the first stanza of this encounter 2-0 at City Stadium.
