Kenya’s top tier league “Kenyan Premier League” will commence this weekend after three months break.
Clouds started to gather over the kick off date, after election of new Football Kenya Federation (FKF) boss Nick Mwendwa who is pro expansion of the league from current 16 teams format to 18.
However, speaking on Thursday night during a football television show on Supersport, Nick cleared the air saying the league will go on as was scheduled.
“Our intention is not to antagonize KPL; we want to work together with them. In the next 24 hours we will sit down with them and agree on the expansion of the league to 18 teams, but in the meantime the league must go on, and nothing will stop that.” Nick said.
Six mouthwatering fixtures are lined up starting Saturday 13, through to Sunday 14. Only two teams; Gor Mahia and Bandari FC will not be playing their opening league matches since they will be involved in CAF Champions League, and Confederations Cup respectively.
Saturday 13
Ulinzi Stars vs Sony Sugar – Afraha
KK Homeboyz vs Western Stima – Mumias Complex
Thika United vs Tusker – Thika
Sofapaka vs Ushuru – Machakos
Sunday 14
Posta Rangers vs Muhoroni Youth – Nyayo
AFC Leopards vs Mathare United – Nyayo
