Michael Olunga late strike was enough to hand Gor Mahia a hard fought victory against overly defensive Western Stima in a Kenyan Premier League match played on Wednesday 28 at Moi Stadium Kisumu.
K’Ogalo pinned the visitors in their own half for the better part of the match but could not find the back of the net with Ali Abondo, Meddie Kagere efforts being stopped by Stima keeper Jairus Adira who was always alert.
John Kiplangat on the other hand was lively for Stima on the right wing but his final touch always let him down and he was later a candidate for substitution.
Gor returned for the second half more purposeful but the Henry Omino boys also doubled their efforts more so at the back.
Coach Frank Nuttall made a change in the 80th minute introducing Enock Agwanda for Collins Okoth a move which boosted his attacking options upfront.
Olunga Goal
Ali Abondo picked Michael Olunga with an inviting cross from the right in the 89th minute which the Kenyan international met with a diving header for the solitary goal. The goal is Olunga’s 18th ,two shy of leading top scorer Jesse Were of Tusker.
The three points push Gor’s tally at the top to 75 points, 18 clear of second placed Ulinzi Stars.
