KPL ROUND 13: TEAM OF THE WEEK

KPL ROUND 13: TEAM OF THE WEEK

By Samuel Gacharira,

There was one stand out score line in Round 13 but there were a number of outstanding showings as the league inches closer to the midseason break.

While the bottom end of the log remained unchanged, the same cannot be said of the opposite end where Thika United and Western Stima returned to winning ways and as a result joined the top four. League leaders Gor Mahia maintained their nine point cushion while Sofapaka clinched second spot after yet another victory against Tusker.

For the eighth time in a row Gor Mahia’s score line remained blank thanks to Boniface Oluoch who has now gone 720 minutes without conceding following the 1-0 win over Muhoroni Youth, during which he put an impressive display.

Dennis Sikhayi has been one of Western Stima’s stand-out performers in recent times and turned in another great performance at right back against AFC Leopards earning his team a clean sheet in that 2-0 victory.

In central defence is Musa Mohammed who was the leader of a solid K’Ogalo backline which made light work of Muhoroni Youth. Alongside him is Thika United’s Vincent Omumbo, a calm and assured figure at the heart of defence, in the 1-0 win over Sony Sugar.

Maurice Odipo completes the back four after putting in a dazzling wing-back showing for his side in a thrilling 2-1 win over the brewers, scoring the winner late in the game.

It is rare for one man to stand out in a game but Abbbas Akinyemi was brilliant in midfield for Francis Baraza’s charges though he did not get the result his efforts truly deserved. Felly Mulumba was a rock in the center of midfield for ‘Batoto Ba Mungu’ with timely interceptions and solid tackles in an unfamiliar spoiler role.

On the flanks, Danson Kago gets a nod after he terrorized Tusker’s defenders with his incisive dribbling and pace throughout the game.Henry Omino’s charges were aided by a fantastic display of speed, skill and trickery down the left flank from Baron Oketch as they trounced Ingwe.

But Victor Ochieng’ was the hero for the powermen coming off the bench to decide the game with two goals in as many minutes in what was a fine individual performance. The last word goes to Michael Olunga who continued his scoring form netting his 7th       goal of the season to give the defending champions their eighth win on the trot.
