The Kenyan Premier League All-Stars team fell 2-1 to Hull City development side in an exhibition match played at the KCOM Stadium in England on Monday.
Hull City started off on a high note creating chances aganist Stanley Okumbi’s coached All Stars.Their efforts were rewarded on the 22nd minute through 16-year-old’s Elliot Holmes powerful header with Patrick Matasi well beaten at the All Stars goal.
Hull pilled pressure on Kenyan side in both halves something that resulted to Gor Mahia defender Harun Shakava making an error when he deflected a ball to score an own goal in the 65th minute to seal the win for the home team.
All Stars had a consolation at the 88th minute when Tusker FC midfielder Humphrey Mieno sent a long range 28-yard cracker into the net to add his name on the scoresheet in the historic encounter.
The well attended match was temporarily stopped for ten minutes when Max Sheaf picked an injury after colliding with Wesley Ongusu in the first half and had to be rushed to hospital.
Moses Odhiambo,Humprey Mieno and John Makwatta had a good day in the field displaying some nice football in a match that was largely dominated by the young home side.
Jaron Bowen saw his shot miss the target by a whisker as the ball rolled over the left corner in dying minutes of the first half but All Stars were determined to defend well.
John Makwatta had a chance to equalize earlier at the start of second stanza with his effort easily grabbed by Charlie Andrew at Hull City’s goal.
At the hour mark, Matasi was forced to clear a Josh Tymon strike through his right foot to deny the home team a goal.
Impressive Matasi was called to action once again when he finger tipped a strong header to deny Greg Olley for a corner.
John Odhiambo nearly found the equalizer in the 62th minute when he received a well caculated pass from Makwatta but his shot had Hull keeper coming off his line to clear the danger.
All-Stars continued to push for second goal but found themselves on the receiving end when they soaked in pressure to see Harun Shakava score against his own net in the 65th minute to give the home side a 2-0 lead.
It was not until two minutes to the end when Mieno sent the powerful shot that saw the Hull keeper making a dive and in the process spilled the ball to the back of the net.
Both sides will meet again in the return leg that will be played at the Moi International Sport Centre Kasarani.
