Muhoroni Youth on Monday 2 made it through to the Kenyan Premier League Top 8 semi final for the first time with a 3-0 thrashing of Sofapaka in the quarter final at Nyayo Stadium.
Three second half goals from defender Wellington Ochieng’, Wycliffe Ochomo and Moses Arita secured the third semi final spot for the “Cane Cutters” from Awasi.
The first half looked up for “Batoto Ba Mungu” who even had Jackson Oketch’s goal in the 12th minute wrongly ruled out for offside. But towards the end of the stanza, Muhoroni were on the ascendancy with Moses Arita who should have been sent off earlier for an elbow on the face of a Sofapaka player forced keeper Everest Mutuyimana to a top notch save.
Wellington Ochieng’ put the visitors ahead seven minutes into the second half with a bullet header off captain Abbas Akinyemi’s well placed free kick from the right.
Heritier Luvualu and captain Barnabas Tiema then responded for the Coach David Ouma’s side on the other end but their efforts troubled not Muhoroni’s back line.
The golden boy of “Got Alila” Wycliffe Ochomo who had been waiting for his chance to arrive like the proverbial hyena waiting for a swinging hand to fall made an easy tap in of Moses Arita’s cross from the right to make it 2-0 in the 72nd minute.
Arita then turned the scorer in the added minutes of the half with a solo run which culminated in the former Thika United man coolly placing the ball past advancing Mutuyimana.
Muhoroni joins Tusker and Ulinzi who made it to semi final on Sunday.
