After a barren first leg at Nyayo Stadium last Sunday, Ulinzi Stars are aiming to book a ticket to the KPL TOP 8 final for the third time when they face off against Muhoroni Youth in the semi-final return leg this Sunday at the same arena.

To this end, the Soldiers from Nakuru played two warm-ups against National Super League outfit Vihiga on Thursday at the Afraha Stadium.

In the first test match at 10AM, the two sides battled to no goals, before Ulinzi found their rhythm in the second meet at 4PM, with a convincing 3-0 thumping of the visitors.

Defender Mahammed Rio announced his return from long layoff with the opener before another defender Eric Apul made it 2-0; another returnee Stephen Waruru converted from the spot for the third.

“The first game wasn’t very good but at least in the second game, the team stepped up and did very well. We are still trying the right combination for the team we will use in the second leg and there is a lot of competition,” Benjamin Nyangweso, assistant Coach observed.

On the Sunday assignment against the “Cane Cutters” from Muhoroni, Nyagweso had this to say;

“It’s not an easy match but we are determined to go and finish the job. We have trained very well and hopefully we get the result.” He added.

Ulinzi last graced TOP 8 final in the year 2012 when they lost to Gor Mahia 2-0; they bagged the inaugural trophy a year earlier.

The other semi-final second leg tie will pit Gor Mahia against Tusker who lost the first leg 2-0.
