Defending champions Tusker Fc managed to beat KPL newbies Nzoia Sugar 2-1 in their match played at Sudi stadium.
Both teams played to a barren draw in the first half with the brewers attempts coming from Humphrey Mieno but the latter defense was keen to deny the visitors a win.
Second half
The home side came in strong and their efforts bore fruits when striker Patrick Kwitonda scored in the 53rd minute to keep the home side in the lead.
12 minutes later, the brewers made a threat in Nzoia’s goal post and Noah Wafula made a ferocious shot to restore parity in the 65th minute. The game continued with both sides in search of a winning goal.
Super Sub
Tusker substituted James Situma for Sydney Ochieng’ after suffering an injury. Ochieng’ made his presence known when he scored in the dying minutes of the match to keep it at 2-1. This was a match to remember for the brewers as they were thumped 5-2 by Nzoia in the first leg match.
The win moves Tusker to second on log with 49 points while Nzoia Sugar are eighth with 40 points.
Gor winners
In another match played on Saturday 21 October, Gor Mahia beat Ulinzi Stars 1-0 to be crowned the KPL champions for the 16th time.
