KPL WEEK 14 REVIEW :Gor Mahia’s unbeaten run flourishes as Sofapaka supremacy over Ulinzi continues

The Kenya Premier League week fourteen yet again served the much needed entertainment to the ever   growing fan base with more goals being scored and new records set.
Sofapaka’s Fiston Abdul Razak once again proved to be thorn in the flesh of Ulinzi Stars each time the two meet with a third goal in as many matches,as Gor’s keeper Boniface Oluoch kept yet another clean sheet with his ninth on the trot with K’Ogalo extending unbeaten run against Thika United to twelve matches.
Mathare United’s Whyvonne Isuza scored his second goal in KPL career against the same opponent AFC Leopards.

KCB 3-0 Muhoroni Youth (Kasarani)
The bankers were too good for  nine men Muhoroni Youth oozing confidence with a 3-0 thrashing of the visitors from Awasi. Paul Kiongera’s thunderbolt in the 67th minute sealed the rout that commenced with Crispinus Onyango’s breakthrough goal in the 31st minute after receiving a sleek pass from Ronald Musana and Yusuf Juma’s strike at the stroke of half time.
Muhoroni Youth were reduced to nine men in a span of two after Peter Okore and Wellington Ochieng were sent off in the 54th and 56th minutes for second bookable offenses.
The loss was Coach Francis Baraza’s seventh as they dropped just above relegation zone with eleven points from fourteen matches. KCB climbed to 13th with 13 points.
City Stars 1-1 Nakuru All Stars (City Stadium)
The two strugglers shared spoils to maintain their relegation spots in the log with nine and six points respectively.
Geoffrey Maina opened scoring for the visitors in the 36th minute but Oscar Mbugua leveled for the Peter Nkata coached side from the spot early in the second half to ensure the match ends all square.
Tusker FC 2-0 Sony Sugar FC (Kasarani)
The Coach Francis Kimanzi charges  bounced back to winning ways with an emphatic 2-0 beating of the Millers to end two matches losing streak that had seen pressure mounting on the experienced tactician.
Lloyd Wahome gave the Brewers the lead in the 32nd minute with a perfect header from Kevin Kimani’s corner kick before Jesse Were sealed the points in the two minutes of added time dispossessing Sony keeper Jairus Odira to cooly slot home the second.
Tusker is sixth on the log with 22 points, they next face free scoring Gor Mahia in the last round of KPL first round.
Sony Coach Zedekiah Otieno is a man firmly under pressure due to poor show this season that has seen the register just four wins in 14 outings,they are placed 11 in the log with 15 points.
Chemelil FC 0-0 Western Stima (Afraha)
The two sides settled for a colourless barren as the Millers Chemelil recorded a second draw in as many matches.
Stima coming from a 2-0 win over AFC Leopards were buoyant heading into this game but they stopped by a well drilled Chemelil defense.
Stima remains in top five at position four in the log with 23 points while Chemelil is 12th with 14 points.

Sofapaka 2-1 Ulinzi Stars (City Stadium)
The weekend’s pivotal match lived up to it’s billing with Sofapaka getting the better of the Soldiers with a well deserved 2-1 beating. The win ensured the Sam Timbe side remains nine points behind leaders Gor as the league soon heads into a break.
Burundian Fiston Razak fired Sofapaka ahead in the fifth minute with a cool header from a Danson Kago corner kick before substitute Job Muhati leveled matters in the second half. Defender Oliver Ruto deflected Fiston’s hard short from the left into his own net with 10 minutes left on the clock to earn Batoto Ba Mungu maximum points.

Mathare United 1-1 AFC Leopards (City Stadium)
Super sub Khalid Jumane rescued a point for “Ingwe” late in the second half with a wonderful solo effort to the relief of Coach Zdravko Logarusic. Whyvonne Isuza had given the hosts the lead in the 37th minute from a superb build up in  the middle before firing home a left foot shot that left Leopards keeper Wycliffe Kasaya rooted on the ground.
The draw leaves Leopards fifth with 22 points while Mathare is ninth with 19 points on the table.
Ushuru 0-0 Bandri (City Stadium)
In another barren draw of the weekend visiting Bandari picked a point from the Tax Men as they continue to drop in the standings.
Bandari FC is tenth in the log with 17 points while Ushuru is eighth with 20 points.
Thika United 0-2 Gor Mahia (Kasarani)
The reigning KPL champions showed class as they dismissed Thika 2-0 in an entertaining match played on “Madaraka” Day. Defender Harun Shakava jumped high to head home the opener in the 37th minute before on form Ali Abondo doubled the score with less than ten minutes to stopped time in the second half with a beautiful free kick from the left.
The win is Gor’s 11th as they increased their unbeaten run to 14 matches, K’Ogalo is  parched at the top of the log with 36 points.
Gor face Tusker in their last fixture of the first leg in Kisumu over the weekend.
