KPL WEEK 22 REVIEW:Gor Mahia returns in style,Leopards fall as Ulinzi held

City Stars 2-0 Mathare (Nyayo Stadium)

City Stars recorded their first win in six matches and it was Gambian
Ebrima Sanneh and Ugandan Jimmy Bageya who scored in this upset
victory over Mathare United.
The Kawangware-based side took the lead on 44 minutes with a sweeping
counter move turning defence to attack with Sanneh got on the end of
to finish with kick past Mathare goalkeeper Robert Mboya.
Fred Nkata fed City Stars returnee Bageya who dribbled delightfully
before finishing off with a thunderous left foot effort in the 86th
minute.

Ushuru 1-1 Sofapaka (Nyayo Stadium)

Ushuru came from a goal down to hold pre-match favourites Sofapaka.
David Mbakiye opened the scoring for Sofapaka midway through the first
half for his second goal in as many matches. The Burundian climbed
high to connect with a cross from Ekaliani Ndolo.
The taxmen fought back hard and got their equivalent response in the
80th minute when club top scorer Moses Arita collected David Naftali’s
fed to smash the ball past Sofapaka goalkeeper David Okello. It was
Arita’s seventh goal of the season.

Nakuru All Stars sink AFC Leopards 2-1

Bebeto Lwamba raced clear off a Leopards defence standing high up in
the field to lob Lucas Indeche in a one-on-one situation with the
Ingwe goalkeeper on 14 minutes for his fourth goal of the season, one
shy of club top scorer Boniface Akenga.
Leopards cancelled that goal in the 20th minute with a firmly headed
effort by Lamine Diallo.
But the determined All Stars side were not going to be denied only
their second win of the season, midseason signing Patrick Oboya
squeezing his shot home from the edge of the 18-yard box in the 69th
minute.

Muhoroni youth 1-0Thika united(Muhoroni Stadium)

Muhoroni Youth continued with their hot winning streak beating Thika United 1-0
At Muhoroni Stadium, the home side were extending their sparkling run
this leg with a fourth consecutive win.
Wycliffe Nyangechi drilled home a free kick midway through the second
half as new man in charge Paul Nkata basked in this new found bounty.
Impressive Muhoroni are now unbeaten in seven matches.

SUNDAY
Gor Mahia announced their return from the Cecafa Club Championships in
Dar es Salaam with a huge victory over KCB, Tusker failed to win in
their second successive match, Sony held title-chasing Ullinzi in
Awendo as Bandari and Awendo fought to a barren draw in Mombasa in
Sunday’s matches.

KCB 1-6 Gor Mahia (Nyayo Stadium)

The league defending champions announced their return to the local
scene with a huge win over KCB.
Michael Olunga began the route in the 16th minute with his 13th goal of
the season and 20 minutes later, his striking partner Meddie Kagere
found the back of the net as the 14-time champions went to the
breather with a comfortable 2-0 lead.
KCB defender Mark Odhiambo turned the ball into his own net for Gor
Mahia’s third soon after the restart.
The bankers however showed signs of breathing three minutes later when
Kenya international Paul Kiongera got goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch with
a strong shot for his seventh goal of the season. The KCB hit man has
now scored in his last three appearances.
Kagere however completed his brace in the 70th minute, to bring his
season’s tally to 12. Khalid Aucho netted the fifth goal for rampant
K’Ogalo in 76th minute.
Mid-season acquisition Enock Agwanda had the last word of the match
with Gor’s sixth goal in the 89th minute.

Tusker 1-1 Western Stima (Nyayo Stadium)

The brewers dropped two more points in this match, but remained on
fourth position in the Kenyan Premier League table, one point more
than fifth-placed AFC Leopards.
Stima’s Baron Oketch scored in the 26th minute after an assist from
Shaffique Batambuze to put the visitors in the lead.
Former AFC Leopards striker Emmanuel Ngama, however, saved the brewers
blushes in the 49th minute. Goalkeeper Gabriel Andika had punched away
a dangerous ball delivered by another former Leopards man Noah Wafula
that fell on Ngama’s quick and dangerous feet.

Sony Sugar 1-1 Ulinzi Stars (Awendo Green Stadium)

The match appeared destined for a draw after a goalless first half,
but Ulinzi’s second half substitute Evans Amuoka tipped the scales in
the 74th minute with a neat goal after being set up by Boniface
Onyango.
But the sugar millers provided a swift response through Ugandan Andrew
Ssekayombya, who rounded goalkeeper Ulinzi goalkeeper James Saruni two
minutes later before firing home the equalizer.

Bandari 0-0 Chemelil Sugar (Mombasa County Stadium)

Bandari played to a boring nil nil draw as both team failed to socer
in the match which so few chance come through,the match was played at
Mombasa county stadium.
The dockers were stronger in the second half with George Abege and
Victor Ndinya causing the Chemelil backline a few nervy moments, but
they were unable to convert their chances.
