Ushuru FC travels to the difficult Awendo Green Stadium today (Saturday 27), the home to Sony Sugar FC, in hunt of the first league win in the new Sportpesa Premier League season.
The last two attempts ended in 3-1 loss to Sofapaka and 1-1 draw to Thika United; however today’s tie will be a different ball game, one which head coach Ken Kenyatta opines could be what they have been waiting for to ignite the 2016 season.
“Today is a great chance. Last year we registered our first win over Sony Sugar, we must prove it wasn’t a fluke,” Ken said.
He warned against lack of concentration which cost them water and firewood last week, when they allowed Thika United to equalize with just added minutes to play.
“We must not allow dip in our concentration like we did last week, we must score more and keep focus till the end of the game,”
Ushuru are currently bottom of the 16-team league with a point and a negative two goal difference. A win could possibly thrush them to top ten on the log.
“I wholly believe in those players. Today our season begins.” Ken concluded.
Sony Sugar FC on the other hand are no any better; just like their opponent of the day, they share a similar record in the season. They drew nil nil against Ulinzi Stars in the league opener before going down 2-1 to AFC Leopards at home, in a midweek clash this week.
The Millers under the new head coach Leonard Odipo, will be working overdrive to restore the status of Awendo Green Stadium as their fortress by avoiding another defeat.
A win, just like Ushuru could see them cross over to top ten on the log.
In other matches of the day, 2009 champions Sofapaka will host Mathare United at Machakos Stadium, while City Stars will take on Tusker FC also at the same venue.
Tusker, Sofapaka and City all fell in the last weekend fixtures; going down 2-0 to Ulinzi Stars, 1-0 to Muhoroni Youth, and 2-0 to Western Stima respectively. Mathare beat Chemelil Sugar 1-0 in the second round fixtures.
On Sunday 28, Thika United will host Muhoroni Youth, Chemelil Sugar will be in Kakamega to face Homeboyz, with high riding Posta Rangers taking on Western Stima at Machakos Stadium.
