Gor Mahia climbed to the helm of the Kenyan Premier League on goal difference with a 2-0 beating of Chemelil Sugar FC on Wednesday in at Thika Stadium.
Two goals from Timothy Otieno and Kenneth Muguna secured the back to back victory for the 15-time champions, who thrashed arch rivals AFC Leopards in the Mashemeji derby on Sunday.
Timothy, who scored the third goal in the biggest rivalry in Kenyan club football netted the opener against Chemelil off George Odhiambo’s assist in the 7th minute for his second of the season.
The reigning KPL most valuable player Kenneth Muguna stretched the lead in the 37th minute – slotting in Ernest Wendo’s rebound shot.
In other KPL matches of the day Sony Suger caged wounded AFC Leopards 1-0 while Sofapaka lost Ulinzi by a similar margin.
The Soldiers climb to third in the standings with 18-points – four points off leaders Gor Mahia who took their haul to 22.
