Gor Mahia midfielder Ernest Wendo was Tuesday morning crowned the Kenya Premier League Player of Month for May.
Wendo manned K’Ogalo’s midfield with panache in the month – leading them to three clean sheets in crucial victories against arch rivals AFC Leopards, Nzoia Sugar and Chemelil Sugar.
The 15-time KPL winners also drew Thika United and Posta Rangers in the month.
Wendo’s virtuoso performance saw him break into the national team’s fold.
“I’m so happy to be recorgnized after working so hard to be where I am. Playing at Gor Mahia makes one steely and the coaches and teammates demand for better performances every game.”
“I have to work hard and maintain the levels that won me this award and hopefully help my team win silverware,” the former Bidco United player said.
To bag the coveted gong, Wendo, who polled 23 votes ward off stiff competition from Tusker’s goalkeeper Duncan Ochieng’, who got three votes less, Nakumatt FC striker Kepha Aswani and Ulinzi Stars’ Stephen Waruru who bagged 19 and 18 votes respectively.
The award is administered by the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya football commission.
Apart from a glittering gong it tags a long 49’ LG television, Kshs 100,000 and additional Kshs 50,000 for teammates.
Gor are currently top of the KPL table standings – nine points clear of second placed Sofapaka and are favorites to bag the title for a record 16th time.
