By Austin Oduor Otieno,
Francis Kimanzi finally breathed a sigh of relief as his side Tusker FC beat visiting Sony Sugar FC in a match played at the Safaricom Kasarani Stadium today evening. The win however did not go well with his opposite Zedekiah Odeon whose stay at Awendo is now uncertain.
Tusker started the match on a high when Daniel Orywoth who had been booked earlier shot wide in the 12th minute of the game. Jesse Were headed wide in the 21st minute before Lloyd Wahome scored through a header after a Kevin Kimani corner in the 31st minute.
Just before the break Wahome denied Sony the equalizer with a super block before Jesse Were stretched Tusker’s lead to two with another goal at the stroke of Half Time.
On resumption, Zedekiah Otieno brought in Byron Odiaga for Wycliff Nyangechi but Tusker still pressed on. Edwin Oduor came close to reducing the deficit but Farouk Shikalo saved. The visitors continued to press hard for their opening goal but to no avail. Even the introduction of Naftali Okombo who replaced Asembeka Victor did not bear fruit.
The brewers could have scored a third but Sony Sugar goalkeeper Jairus Adira parried Humphrey Mieno’s shot.
The win sends Tusker to the 5th position with 22 points, same as Thika who play league leaders Gor Mahia tomorrow.
The Awendo based side remains at the 11th position with 15 points.
