AFC Leopards will face Kariobangi Sharks in this year’s GoTV Shield final on 20th October.
Eight-time winners AFC Leopards edged National Super League side Vihiga United 1-0 at Afraha Stadium Sunday to sail through.
The goal came courtesy of Alexis Kitenge’s penalty in the dying minutes of the game after a handball in the forbidden area.
Sharks, which made the final for the very first time in their short but impressive history, thumped Sony Sugar 2-0 at the same venue to book their slot.
Red hot Kenya international Masud Juma netted the goals.
Sharks were promoted to the Kenyan Premier League this season and have done well to get noticed. The GoTV Shield final present them with the first opportunity to bag a major trophy on the local scene.
A win for either side guarantees a golden slot to represent the country in the second tier continental club championship the CAF Confederations Cup.
Gor Mahia are the record winners of the oldest knockout tournament in Kenya with 10 titles, they also remain the only Kenyan club to win a continental trophy.
A feat they achieved in 1987 – beating Esperance du Tunis on away goal’s rule to bag the present day CAF Confederations Cup.
