The Football Kenya Federation Arbitration Tribunal has ruled against AFC Leopards – ordering them to compensate coach Ivan Minneart for unfair termination.

“It is our finding that the Coach was unfairly dismissed by the Club in the
circumstances of the evidence that was presented to this Tribunal,” the detailed ruling released today reads in part.

The 13-times Kenyan champions have been directed to pay the Belgian a six-month salary totaling $24,000, and issue him with certificate of service for the six-months he was at the helm.

At the time of his sacking in September this year, for poor performance, the former Rayon Sports and Djoliba SC manager had 18-months left on his contract.

However, his request for full payment (18 months) was declined, as the tribunal argued that the period is long, and as a qualified coach, he can still land another job.

“Whilst he would be in the process of seeking opportunities, we also do
appreciate the testimony by Mr Igaida that the Club has already hired a
replacement coach and thus would be tasked with paying two coaches if the
Coach is awarded his claim of eighteen month salary.”

Minneart, viewed as “largely successful party” in the ruling was awarded the costs of the proceedings amounting to Kshs 2000,000.
