Zambian Striker Lewis Macha made a dream Kaizer Chiefs Debut when he scored in the Carling Black Label Champions Cup final. Macha joined Kaizer Chiefs in June from Mozambican side Ferroviaro De Maputo where he was the club’s top scorer with 10 goals. Eric Mathoho scored the other goal of the game as Chiefs run away 2 nil winners.
Kaizer Chiefs could have had more than 2 goals as they put up a fantastic and dominant performance against their arc rivals. The return of Oupa Manyisa on his 28th birthday, after 10 months out of the game through injury, was perhaps the biggest highlight for Bucs fans.
The first few minutes did not give the expected excitement but Chiefs started stamping their authority on the game just after the half hour mark. Willard Katsande had a goal ruled out for a foul on Pirates goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo
The teams went into the break locked at 0-0. The deadlock was finally broken on 58 minutes
when Mathoho reacted quickest as Parker’s shot
rebounded off the crossbar and into his path.
Pirates appealed for offside but the goal stood and replays showed that
he was indeed onside.
Chiefs brought on last season’s MultiChoice Diski
Challenge top-scorer Emmanuel Letlotlo for the
final 10 minutes, while Pirates introduced new
signings Bernard Morrison and Riyaad Norodien.
Chiefs introduced another of their new signings
two minutes from the end when Zambian forward Lewis Macha replaced Ekstein.
Macha made sure of the win four minutes into
injury-time when he headed home after a fine
cross from William Twala on the right.
