Liberian FA nullifies 2019/2020 Football season due to coronavirus outbreak

The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has scrapped the 2019/2020 Orange national league due to the coronavirus pandemic. Also getting the chop is the Petro Trade Cup. The decision follows an emergency executive committee meeting on Monday 4 May, 2020.

The executive committee’s consulted with all the clubs on the decisions made at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) on 5 May.

The LFA decided that there will be no promotion and relegation of clubs at all levels, including the third division and community leagues in all the 15 counties.

However, playoffs will be used to decide the top four teams in the event of CAF requesting for a representative in the CAF Champions League.

The same format will also be used for the quarter-finalists in the Petro Trade Cup when football activities were suspended on 17 March to determine Liberia’s representative for the Caf Confederation Cup.

Contracts for players and coaches that are still running with the respective clubs and were due at the end of the 2019/20 season will have to start afresh. Clubs were also mandated to produce financial reports from January to December 2019 and January to December 2020.

LFA President Mustapha Raji, Vice President Sekou Konneh, executive committee members Beatrice Mamie Kpoto and Pawala Janyan; secretary-general Isaac Montgomery, deputy secretary-general John Bonah, technical director Henry Browne, legal and competitions director Benedict Yarsiah and women’s football director Francis Tamba attended the meetings with the clubs.

First division defending champions LPRC Oilers, LISCR FC, Mighty Barrolle, Freeport FC, Monrovia Club Breweries, Small Town, Nimba FC, Bea Mountain, Watanga FC; second division defending champions Barrack Young Controllers (BYC-II), Tony FC, Muscat FC, Mighty Blue Angels, Gardnersville FC, Jubilee FC, Sandi FC, Stages FC, Heaven Eleven and female division defending champions Earth Angels, Blanco FC, Determine Girls, Senior Professionals, World Girls, Island Queens, Professionals Sisters, Ambassador FC and Hippo FC attended the meetings.
