More riveting action is lined up this coming weekend as the ‘Wakilisha Mtaa Yako’ campaign steered by the SportPesa Super 8 Premier League marks its 26th round with six entertaining matches taking center stage across different locations within Nairobi County.
Focus will be anchored on match pitting league leaders Jericho All Stars and Kawangware United which is one of two high profile matches that will highlight a double header at Camp Toyoyo grounds on Saturday 20 August. The other match will see Shauri Moyo Blue Stars taking on Metro Sports at the same place while the other remaining four matches will kick-off of Sunday 21 August.
SATURDAY
JERICHO ALL STARS VS KAWANGWARE UNITED (3PM)
League leaders Jericho All Stars face a litmus test of their credentials when they take on Kawangware United in what is anticipated to be a nail-biting East vs West conference clash at Camp Toyoyo grounds.
Jericho who are chasing the league crown are at the summit of the league standings with 50 points but are under intense pressure to perform better now that the competition nears the final bend.
With their huge fans expected to throng the venue on Saturday, Jericho know that a win against the West conference team will prove to be vital to shrug off competition at the top from a nagging Kayole Asubuhi who are just a point below occupying second position on the grid.
The last time these two sides met in the competition, Jericho All Stars collected the three points under heavy protest waiting late to break Kawangware 1-0 and this time around Kawangware might pull a surprise on the East conference team as they are oozing with confidence after disciplining Baba Dogo United 5-1 in their last outing, a result that left a distant 10th with 37 points.
SHAURI MOYO BLUE STARS VS METRO SPORTS (1PM)
Before that, another encounter that is poised to be an explosive affair will see potential title hopefuls Shauri Moyo Blue Stars entertain their home fans when they take on unpredictable Metro Sports.
Metro who are led by coach Antony Indah are placed fifth on the standings with 41 points and are still bitter from their 1-0 defeat by Blue Stars in the first leg that broke their unbeaten run back then and will definitely use this as an opportunity to atone their earlier mistakes.
However, the Shauri Moyo outfit are currently blowing hot and cold where they sit 4rd on the grid with 46 points and they know very well that they cannot afford to make any blunders now if they are to finish among the top three teams and a possible win will steer them in a favourable position to achieve this.
SUNDAY 21 AUGUST
DIGUNA FC VS TUK (1PM)
TUK face another hurdle in their quest of defending their title when they travel to Nakeel grounds to take on ninth-placed Diguna FC in one of two matches at the same place.
After dismantling Melta Kabiria 5-0 at home last weekend, TUK who sit 3rd on the log with 48 points are on the brink of recapturing the league title if their current form is anything to go by but should expect opposition from Diguna who are fresh from a 2-1 win over Metro Sports in their previous match on Sunday.
A win for Diguna will be helpful to lead them up on the log where they have collected 36 points so far.
AJAX FC VS KABETE UNITED (3PM)
In another match at the same venue, hosts Ajax FC who are placed 6th with 41 points welcomes Kabete United who will be out to recover from their 3-1 piping by minnows Shamako Babes in last weekend’s fixtures.
Kabete under tutelage of Robert Orangi, are not doing so well in the league they currently ranked 12 in the 16-team chart with 31 points and will be desperately searching for the three points which will be very crucial to spark some life into their dwindling fortunes where they are fraying on the sharp edges of the relegation axe.
Ajax FC will hope to use their 2-1 triumph over Shauri Moyo Blue Stars last Sunday as enough motivation to get past the west conference visitors whom they beat 1-0 in the reverse fixture making them bookmakers favourite before the match.
MASA VS KIAMAIKO CITY (3PM)
MASA welcomes Kiamaiko City at Makongeni grounds for a chance to go up on the league table standings.
Hassan Andale’s MASA lost their last match 2-1 against Kayole Asubuhi a result that left them at position 7 with 38 points and this match will be a chance to redeem themselves against the Huruma based
Citizens who are struggling to extricate themselves from the jaws of relegation. Kiamaiko under Steven Kasamba, are rooted at 13th spot with 30 points and a win will definitely be a motivational boost.
SHAMAKO BABES VS MELTAH KABIRIA (3PM)
At Kabete grounds, basement side Shamako Babes continue with the relegation battle where they take on fellow West siders Meltah Kabiria.
After a 3-1 morale-boosting win over neighbours Kabete United which is their third in the competition, Shamako are still trailing on the log with a paltry 12 points will hope to repeat the same when they clash with Melta who are an equally strong side as they are ranked 8th with 37 points.
Wounded Melta are still recovering from their 0-5 hammering by TUK last week and will hope to recover from that but will go into this match as favourites after a convincing 2-0 win over the west conference minnows in the opening leg.
