Former international Love Cabangula has been hired by the FAF as the coach of the Angola Under-17 team, ahead of the upcoming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Under-17 qualifiers.
Cabangula, who was understood to be one of two candidates being considered for the job, met the FAF Advisory Committee including representatives from the Sports Authority on Friday last week according to Angola national radio.
“It’s nice to have Cabangula on board. His experience of handling youth teams will come in handy for the U-17 boys as we wish to leave no stone unturned to field a competitive team in the AFCON U-17 qualifiers,”said FAF President.
The former striker of ASA, 1º de Agosto and Petro de Luand replaces Languinha Simão who guided the team to their first appearance in the U-17 championship that was hosted by Gabon.
Cabangula, capped as a forward by the Angola national team, was part of the squad that featured in 2006 World Cup in Germany. He is also a four times National Champion (2002, 2003, 2004 and 2013) with different teams and best scorer of Girabola in 2004 , 2005 and 2011.
“My role will be to orchestrate everything wherein the players will be playing their part,” he said. “I admire the FAF’s vision and the U-17 qualifiers will act as a base for development of football in Angola. The players need to believe in themselves to do something special for the country.”
