Christopher ” Captain Fantastic” Katongo and Isaac ”Gattuso” Chansa were late inclusion to the Chipolopolo Chan team but their Leadership Zeal in the team has not gone unnoticed.
Zambia national football team coach George Lwandamina has hailed Christopher Katongo and Isaac Chansa for their sense of leadership in the team by saying their inclusion in the squad has had a positive impact on less experienced players.
Lwandamina spoke to fazfootball.com in a scheduled interview at Nkoloma Stadium on
Thursday.Lwandamina believes that less experienced players will be able to feed off the duo’s
experience in the run up to and during the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals in Rwanda.
“They were roped in to bring in the experience and so far their interaction with the younger players has been positive, which is good for team building,” said
Lwandamina.
“They have gone to more than four tournaments so they have a lot to share with those who have never been to tournaments.
“They have won the Afcon; Chris was the captain and moreover he is still playing actively with Green Buffaloes.
“I hope and trust they will be able to have positive impact when we go to Rwanda. Am sure they will, they have quite vast
knowledge in terms of tournaments.”
Lwandamina’s team flies out to South Africa on Friday (today) morning for a five day training
camp.
While in South Africa, the team will play a friendly match against Angola on Sunday and another against yet to be named opposition on Tuesday.
Zambia is expected to arrive in Rwanda on Wednesday, January 13 ahead of the tournament which kicks off in Kigali on January 16.
Zambia is placed in Group D along with Zimbabwe, Mali and Uganda and will be based in Rubavu.
