The list of aspirants seeking to vie for Football Kenya Federation Chairmanship come October this year keeps growing.
Former Afc Leopards Chairman and Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Alex Ole Magelo has announced his interest in the seat currently occupied by Sam Nyamweya.
Speaking to sokaeast25.com, Magelo criticised the current management for failing Kenyan Football following never ending wrangles being witnessed now between themselves and Kenyan Premier league over the number of teams to be promoted to top flight league which starts next month.
Two weeks ago at KICC during the Sports Personality of the Year(SOYA) Awards, Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Arts and Culture Dr Hassan Wario sounded a warning to Kenya’s Football Association to put their house in order failure to which he will disband the whole federation something that Magelo supports fully
“Let Wario implements his words. It’s been long overdue, our soccer is headed to the dogs and if proper action isn’t taken against those in charge for poor management, then it will be the minister to blame.
” I want to officially declare that I will be on the ballot in the upcoming FKF Presidential elections.I therfore call upon all friends of this Country’s football to back my bid”
Magelo who says his passion for sports especially football has motivated him to contest for the position is banking on the experience he acquired at the den to deliver at the national office.
Magelo said if it were not for bad leadership at the helm, Kenya’s National Team Harambee Stars would have been in Equatorial Guinea taking part in the 30th edition of African Cup of Nations currently underway.
“There’s a continental showpiece happening now in West African Nation we’re not participating all we’re doing is busy politicking over nothing constructive. We need leaders of goodwill not those to serve self interests”
He appealed to all relevant stakeholders to go back to the drawing board and deliberate on measures that will revive the lost glory of the sport. While revealing that his manifesto number would be to put in place proper youth structures if elected, he challenged the Government through County systems to invest heavily in grassroot Soccer where he believes there’s huge untapped talent.
Other candidates who have announced their intentions to run for the top seat include former internationals led by Ken Oliech and Bonface Ambani.
