Ulinzi Stars striker John Mark Makwatta,has been awarded another top accolade at an awards ceremony in Bungoma last night.
The Best Footballer Award was awarded to Makwatta at the Magharibi Michezo Awards organized at his home town in Western Kenya.
Makwatta received the trophy less than a week after being rewarded with Kenya Premier League golden boot award.
The army man won a tough battle that had other nominees who included ,Erick Ouma( Gor Mahia), Kenneth Muguna (Western Stima), Whyvonne Isuza (Mathare United), Lawrence Juma (Nzoia United), Michael Wanyika (Kakamega Homeboyz) and Brian Otieno (Nzoia United).
In an interview with Ulinzi Stars portal,Makwatta expressed his joy for the award by thanking his team mates at the club for their support.
“This is where I started my football and I am very happy to be awarded here. It is a delight and I want to thank everyone who voted for me. I also want to thank my team mates and Ulinzi Stars in general for their contribution to my performance. I wouldn’t have done it without them,” Makwatta said.
Makwatta emerged top scorer in SportPesa Premier League with 15 goals.He played a great role, helping his side reach Gotv Shield final for the first time in history where he scored six goals during the campaign.
Makwatta’s succesful year as the best scorer was also evident during KPL Top 8 Cup where he scored two goals in Ulinzi’s run-up to the semi-final spot where they were eliminated by Muhoroni Youth who went on to capture the title.
