Malawi managed to earn a valuable point following a goalless draw against Guinea in their 2017 CAF Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier in Conakry on Friday.
Both teams have battled in Group L and occupy the two bottom places with just two points each after three games.Guinea are now bringing up the rear in Group L on 2 points, on equal footing with third-placed Malawi who have scored 1 more goal so far.
Guinea lost their opening match in the qualifiers against Swaziland in Morocco, and also drew against Zimbabwe. Meanwhile Malawi have also battled, drawing against Swaziland and losing 2-1 to Zimbabwe.
Rather surprisingly Swaziland and Zimbabwe, who drew 1-1 today in Swaziland, are in the top two spots in the group with 5 points each.
Following a very dull first half with the local fans booing their team at the half time break, Guinea coach Luis Fernandez tried to overturn things by bringing on Lass Bangoura and then Mohamed Yattara and Francois Kamano in the second half.
But the Syli failed to find the back of the net with a very strong defensive display from the travelling Malawi Flames.
The teams will face off again in Malawi on Tuesday, when The Flames host Guinea in the early afternoon.
