Club coaches licencing is a word that awakens apprehension in a lot of clubs in Malawi. This is so because the conditions attached are far from being met by even the so called soccer heavy weights of Malawi like the Big Bullets and Wanderers.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Soka25east.com , General Secretary for Football Association of Malawi ,Sugzo Nyirenda said the request by clubs to defer the implementation of club licencing to 2017 will not be allowed.
He emphasised that any team that does not meet the minimum requirements of club licencing will not be allowed to participate.
He sighted areas of coach qualifications, club infrastracture like training grounds and club house.
Big Bullets and Wanderers both lead the long list of clubs to be affected. They both have head coaches that do not meet the minimum qualifications of coaches in the elite leaague.
Despite this, BB and wanderers shared the spoils by grabbing the super league and Carlseberg cup respectively. I
Incidentaly ,another coach that grabbed honours is Kaunda of Civo who guided the team to Standard Bank Cup glory.
Bullets’s Mabvuto Lungu, Elia Kananji from Wanderers and Kaunda are not among the coaches that have CAF A and B licences.
Other conditions for club licencing include youth development clubs, club constitution or statues and players welfare programmes
