The home of Mali’s Minister of Sports, Housseini Amion Guindo in Bamako has reportedly been attacked by hoodlums following postponement of the Mali Cup final (Coupe du Mali) on Sunday.
The match between Djoliba AC and Stade Malien de Bamako which was slated to be played on 18th November was postponed until a later date by Mali Football Federation (FEMAFOOT) without giving any clear reason.
In a statement released by Sports Ministry on Wednesday,Guindo expressed his deep concerns following the attack.
“Following the postponement of the Mali Cup due to unvailability of chief guest who is President of Republic of Mali, a group of people tried to attack my home.
“Had it not for quick intervation by security that manned the front door, the damage would have been much,”reads part of the statement.
The undentified attackers are said to have claimed to be part of one of the clubs that was to play in the final and went on to insult the minister.
“All sports problems are resolved in the ministry and not at my home.Attacking me at home was not the right way to solve the problem,”
Guindo has asked the Malian authorities to take drastic measures to stop these kind of actions.
“These kind of actions must not go unpunished.Today they were trying to attack me.Tommorrow it may be another administrator or even a player,” he concluded.
