After grinding a 1-1 draw away to Chippa United in the league yesterday, African Champions Mamelodi Sundowns now shift focus to weekend’s CAF Super Cup clash with TP Mazembe.
“It was a tough night out in the Eastern Cape, but the attention has already shifted to this weekend!
“Let’s get behind Bafana ba style as they look to make more history,” the club urged.
Fares Hachi, who was voted man of the match, in the “game of volleyball”, as Coach Pitso Masimone pre-empted it due to poor pitch conditions, echoed the club’s rallying call.
“This man of the match is for my team, we are now already focused on this weekend,” the first Algerian to play in the Premier Soccer League said.
In the match played on a muddy, slippery Sisa Dukushe Stadium, hosts Chippa adopted well, and despite falling behind in the 18th minute through Wayne Arendse’s goal from a set piece situation, they rallied to equalize through Captain Rhulani Manzini’s penalty in the 36th minute.
Not wanting to risk injuries ahead of the big clash, Pitso rested a good number of his key players, including first choice keeper Denis Onyango and Liberian forward Anthony Laffor.
The match against 5-times African Champions, and the reigning CAF Cup holders Mazembe, will be played 18 February 2017 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, Pretoria, South Africa.
The Ravens will be gunning for a fourth glory, while Sundowns a first. With Linafoot suspended, the DRC heavyweights have been getting in shape – playing a series of friendlies since last weekend.
They also hired a new manager, Frenchman Thierry Froger, who will travel to Pretoria to assess his squad, before officially assuming his new role.
