Mamelodi Sundowns have an agreement in principle with Toni Silva, the former Levadiakos and Liverpool winger, to join the club in July/August transfer window, according to reports in South Africa.
Although the Brazilians have yet to strike a deal with Silva’s agent , it is thought the player has indicated his willingness to move to South Africa and the framework of a contract of undisclosed value a year has been discussed.
Sundowns rivals Cape Town City had previously tried to sign the Guinea-Bissau international back in December last year but Levadiakos were not prepared to lose him back then. The Premier Soccer League outfit went on to sign Allan Kateregga.
Silva is likely to partner Jeremy Brockie at the heat of Sundown’s midfield next season. He will bring more drive and power to Pitso Mosimane’s midfield.
Mosimane must now look to improve his left-back options as well.Sundowns need to find a top quality backup for Ricardo Nascimento and drop one of their foreign quaota to create room for former Liverpool star.
Now,it remains to be seen whether the Brazilians will announce the capture of the player for the new 2008/2009 season.
