The Premier Soccer League has charged Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates for acts of hooliganism witnessed during their league match at Loftus Versfeld on the 11th February 2017.

Pirates have been charged with contravening Rule 54 of the NSL Rules arising from the conduct of their supporters at the match after the club’s supporters invaded the pitch threw objects and vandalized and damaged private property during the game.

While Sundowns, who were the hosts, have been charged for failure to provide adequate security at the match resulting in the their supporters and that of the visiting club (Orlando Pirates) invading the demarcated pitch area, causing damage to property and throwing objects at persons and onto the field.

“Both clubs will appear before the Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee on the 9th March 2017,” a media brief states.

Hell broke loose in the advanced stages of the second half after Sundowns hammered home the 6th and final goal. A section of agitated Pirates fans turned violent – pouring their venom on opposing fans and property – wreaking havoc in the process.
