Manchester United have reached an agreement with Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua to extend the loan deal for Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo.
Ighalo’s loan deal was supposed to expire yesterday on Sunday with the player travelling back to China but a deal has been struck that will see the 30 year old remain at Old Trafford until January 31, 2021.
Manchester United have officially confirmed the deal.
A report on their website read, “Today’s confirmation is a timely boost for United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, as he continues to prepare his squad for this month’s resumption of competitive football.”
The Manchester United boss was recently quoted by MUTV that the club is in talks with Shangai to extend the loan for the Super Eagles striker.
“We’re in dialogue. They’ve been great towards us, his club, and allowed him to play for his dream club,” he said.
”It’s been a dream for him and hopefully he can finish off what he started, hopefully with a trophy for us. At the moment, nothing has been agreed. Their league is going to get started soon so we’re just waiting to see.”
The Nigerian has scored four goals in eight appearances so far in all competitions even though he is yet to register a Premier League goal for United.
