Ugandan Goalkeeper Omar Salim Magoola was the hero for Sudanesde giants El Mereikh saving two penalties and converting one himself as El Merreikh triumphed over Ugandan opponents KCCA 3-0 on post match penalties after the game ended on a 2-2 draw after regular time and extra time on Friday evening in the ongoing Cecafa Kagame cup.
It was a bitter pill for KCCA who were denied a place in the final by their own countryman Magoola and former team mate signed by Merreikh just two months ago and has been in fine form for El Mereikh and for the Sudanese it was a sweet revenge against a side that they lost to in the CAF Champions league .
Salim saved both Brian Omony and Brian Majwega’s spot kicks as he scored the decisive winning goal that lifted Mereikh to the final .
Gabril Balla and Faisal Moussa Hussein converted their penalties to give El Merreikh an advantage as striker Allan Wanga’s missed his penalty.
KCCA’s regular time goal-scorer Tom Masiko sent his shot wide off target to hand victory to the Sudanese side and into the final of the regional tournament.
Mohamed Traore’s individual brilliance in the 32nd minute saw him beat the KCCA defense to shoot at goal punishing goalkeeper Yasin Mugabi who failed to cover his near post putting El Merreikh in the lead.
Tom Masiko scored a brilliant goal his first of the tournament after converting a through pass from Hakim Ssekumba in the 50th minute.
Abdalla Abdalate Ragi found the back of the net after a Traore shot rebounded off Mugabi in the 70th minute to give the Sudanese giants a 2-1 lead.
Brian Umony equalized with a superb goal in the 83rd minute leaving Magoola with no chance of saving it and forcing extra time.
