By Admin,
Hitherto Fufa Big League sides, Maroons and Saints, on Thursday earned promotion to next season’s Uganda Premier League (UPL) after their identical 1-0 victories over Synergy and Jinja Municipal Council (JMC) respectively.
Maroons, who are one point ahead of second placed Kirinya going into the final round of games, scored through Musa Ssali in the first half.
His header ensured Maroons, who were last season relegated to the lower division via a boardroom decision during the standoff between the now defunct Uganda Super League (USL) and Fufa Super League (FSL), secured top spot in Elgon group.
The other game played at Namboole saw striker Alex Kitata’s 16th goal of the season send the Saints top as they leapfrogged hitherto Rwenzori group leaders JMC. The visitors had come into the final game needing only draw to earn promotion.
Masaka, JMC, Water and Kirinya will play in the playoffs start next Wednesday to determine the third team to be promoted.
