DR Congo international goalkeeper Ley Matampi will not renew his two-year contract with TP Mazembe, which expired on Saturday.
According to the club the 28-year-old DR Congo international “demanded” to be let go effectively ending his second stint with Ravens.
“The TPM has accepted Ley Matampi’s demand to leave the club at the end of his contract on Saturday, March 03, 2018,” the club’s statement reads partly.
Ley joined the Lubumbashi giants from DC Motema Pembe in 2012 for his first stint with the coach Pamphile Mihayo’s coached side for two years before crossing to Angola’s Kabuscorp S.C.P for a season in 2014.
He returned to the Linafoot in 2015 with Motema Mapembe for one year before rejoining Mazembe in 2016 after penning a two-year-deal.
The Kinshasa-born won numerous accolades with the five-time African Champions including three Linafoot titles, CAF Confederations Cup and CAF Super Cup.
But he has lately found play time hard to get with Ivorian Sylvian Gbohouo owning the number one jersey.
Mazembe hailed his contribution to their golden era of African football dominance.
“His technical qualities in goal made him one of the good goalkeepers of his generation at the TPM and greatly helped the group to achieve its goals in the league and in CAF competitions.
“The TPM would like to thank him and wish him the best for the rest of his career,” the club added.
Ley guided DR Congo’s home-based Leopards to the 2016 CHAN glory in Rwanda.
His next move is still a subject of intense speculations.
