Mauritania President Abdel Aziz stops Super Cup game at 65th minute orders penalties after getting bored

mauritANIA pRESIDENTThe Mauritanian Super Cup final ended in unusual fashion at the weekend, after the country’s president got bored of the action, and ordered a penalty shoot-out in the 63rd minute.

President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz was said to have become increasingly frustrated with the pace of the game and, with FC Tevragh-Zeina and ACS Ksar locked at 1-1, called for an early result, according to a report in Italy’s Gazetto World.

The unusual change in proceedings left thousands awaiting explanation, despite the league denying claims of the president’s involvement.

A statement issued by the federation present, Ahmed Ould Abderrahmane denied the allegations: “The decision was made due to organisational issues in accordance with the presidents and the coaches of the two teams”, it read.
