DRC giants TP Mazembe have appointed Frenchman Thierry Froger as new head coach.

Thierry, 53, today (Monday 13) agreed to assume the reigns at the Lubumbashi based side till 31 December 2017.

He takes over from fellow countryman Hubert Velud, who ditched the club in a huff, for Tunisia’s Etoile Du Sahel, end of 2016 season, after guiding them to the 2016 CAF Cup glory, and domestic league triumph.

Thierry, a defender in his playing days with Lille, Le Mans and Genoble, is not new to Africa, having handled Togo’s Sparrow Hawks between 2010 and 2011.

His last posting as coach was with Creteil (2014-2015) in the French third division league.

He will fly to Pretoria, South Africa Wednesday to watch Mazembe take on Mamemlodi Sundowns in the CAF Super Cup Saturday, February 18, 2017 before he officially takes over on the team’s return to DRC.
