MC Alger booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the African Champions League on Saturday afternoon, thanks to a commendable goalless draw against Tanzania’s Young Africans during the final group stage match (Group A).
This result enabled Khaled Benyahia’s men to secure second place in the group with nine points, finishing just a point ahead of their opponents, who ended up in third place with eight points. Meanwhile, in another match, Sudanese representatives Al Hilal maintained their position at the top of the group with ten points, despite suffering a heavy 4-0 defeat to TP Mazembe.
Goals from Diouf (21′), Keita (29′), Ngimbi (58′), and Shaibu, who converted a penalty in the 89th minute, marked the incredible performance of TP Mazembe. However, despite this significant victory, TP Mazembe was eliminated from the competition, finishing at the bottom of the group with only five points.
Meanwhile, MC Alger can take pride in achieving the first part of their objective, which was to progress to the quarter-finals, as they now await to find out who their next opponent will be and how far they can go in the tournament.
