Mentesnot Adane,Aklilu Ayenew and Tarik Getnet were the main casualties as Ethiopia Walia Ibex coach Mariano Barreto made changes to his provinsional squad preparing for the do or die clash against Mali to be played at the National Stadium Addis Ababa on October 11th.
In their places Barreto called up two goal keepers Aseged Aklilu and Yonannes Bezabeh both of EEPCO and hawassa respectively to try and find a remedy to the inconsistency between the posts with the keepers conceding easy goals.
“Preparations are going on well and we hope to ensure the team is in top form ahead of the crucial match against Mali to be played in Addis. We are working to strengthen different departments that is why the changes are necessary as we work on deciding the final squad by giving as many players a chance to prove themselves”Barreto told Soka25east.com
St.George defender Biyadgilign Elias was also recalled to the team as Barreto sought to strengthen the team after dropping 6 points in the 2-1 home loss to Algeria and the 3-2 loss to Malawi away.
Adane and Ayenew who have been in Barreto plans since he took over and even travelled with the team to Brazil did not find favour as they failed to live up to expectations in training forcing the coach to drop the regular players from his initial team.
