Algeria claimed an emphatic 6-0 win over Lesotho in Blida on Sunday night in their final 2017 Africa Cup of Nation qualifier.
In what was the last game on a busy weekend of qualifying throughout the continent, the Fennec Foxes were merciless on the Southern African visitors despite having already qualified as winners of Group J.
The North Africans raced into a 5-0 lead at halftime, before taking their foot off the pedal in the second half – much to Lesotho’s relief.
Algeria’s goals came via Hilel Soudani, Riyad Mahrez (each scored a brace), Saphir Taider and Ryad Boudebouz, signalling a high-scoring start to the tenure of new coach Milovan Rajevac.
Algeria ended with a haul of 16 points (only Senegal, who claimed a 100 percent record in Group K, had a superior record) to top their pool, while Lesotho finished bottom with three points.
