Kenyan international has opened up on his loan move to LaLiga newbies Girona FC.
The 23-year-old former Gor Mahia striker sealed a season loan deal with the Spanish topflight side from China’s Guizhou Zhiche on transfer deadline Friday.
“It’s a great opportunity to join this wonderful team. I have followed Girona for a long time,” Olunga said.
“The group of players in the team is like a unit. I believe everybody is ready to work to help the team,” he added.
Olunga blossomed in the Kenyan Premier League after only two seasons and shot to fame in 2015 while with Gor Mahia.
In the season, he guided the record Kenyan champions to a 15th league title unbeaten – winning the golden boot in the process.
He was also named the most valuable player. His exploits attracted a big money move to Sweden with Djurgardens IF where he continued with his scoring prowess.
However, a shock transfer to China early this year destabilized his steady growth as he struggled to find play time.
The move to Girona presents to him a golden opportunity to get his mojo back.
He hinted to the Girona family what he is made of, “I’m very strong in the box and typically my style of play is being aggressive on the ball and also as a team player.”
Olunga is capped 25 times by the Harambee Stars and has scored 11 goals in his senior journey.
