Sensational Gor Mahia striker Michael Ogada Olunga also nicknamed as the “Engineer” embarks on his first training session today at Djurgarden after arriving in Stockholm Sweden on Thursday ahead of the highly publicised move.
Speaking to Soka25east.com upon arrival in Sweden an elated Olunga said “I know i will take time to adapt myself but i i get a platform and the many possibilities here i know i will become one of the best strikers at Djurgarden”
“Djurgaden is a very impressive club and positve, but i must accustom myself to the weather as its very cold and that means it will be a challenge but offcourse those are some of the things i expected But when I had the first workout here in the halls (Johan Björkmans Hall), it felt OK. I was helped little of the coach. So am looking forward towards big things here this season. If I play on that level I so much hope I to can to do good things “Olunga told Soka25east.com which exclusively broke news of his departure to Sweden ahead of the other media houses
What has been you impressions of Djurgården so far ?
“I have seen that they have good training facilities, its a very well–organized club. Such training halls we were not accustomed to back home , there are so many in the city has I was made to understand . The season is long and with this climate is it easy to get an injrury. So it is important shape up ahead of the long season””
Djurgården is a very good club, well–organized and a good träning system . I have got very good impression of the club, and I see huge towards my stay.
“The team came back from Kanarieöarna yesterday. So I have only had time to meet the assistant coach, and Bosse Andersson (the sport manager). They has actually taken me around and got me to let me know it will be my new home. So I am actually looking forward towards to meeting the team today in the first training session“Olunga further told Soka25east.com
So had you sort to know more about the club for example on youtube ?
Ohh yes, I checked the club , it is huge with so many fans i also learnt aboutthe rivalry with other top clubs like AIK and Hammarby and the big interest towards the matches .
Olunga has not yet met Djurgårdens‘s coach Pelle Olsson. But Gor Mahia and Djurgården agreed about a transition, agreeing to join the club in their pre season .
“yes, the clubs have agreed about everything. The rule here is that a player cannot be signed without the coach’s consent . So the coach must see me, and decide if he is actually interested of me. I was made to understand that they have got an injured striker Kerim Mrabti so they told me they have no other options for strikers.I know what i can do when i am in my best form “he added
“I know if i get a chance i will prove myself as i know it will take time to adapt myself. When a child is born the new born baby takes time to develop and learn things that is the exact model i will use to adapt and learn as much as i can when i get the platform “.
You have self–confidence?
yes, I have self–confidence. As player, if you do not have self–confidence then its unfortunate as in football everything revolves around self confidence and if you do not believe in yourself then you are in for a rough time in football acts everything about self–confidence. If you do not believe in yourself and on what you can to do, then it becomes hugely difficult”
What about your Education that you have always insisted on?
The opportunity to continue my studies in Sweden will be much appreciated . For example at Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm to continue with my Engineering course .
I have one and a half year left of my education. I have spoken with Bosse Andersson, and he said that if all goes well he will gladly help me continue with my education . So it is something I look forward towards. If I get the opportunity to play here in Djurgården i will suggest that to them. If they can permit me to complete my studies while I play here, then would I be very grateful. It would give me a big advantage.
Why do you think its important to do something else at the side after football ?
yes, actually. Football is a short career. You can be the best player today and at the same time injury can destroy your career . If you do not have a good background and do not have anything to back it up with , as education, then you might find it very difficult. For man must look at the future. It does not act only about the present , but also about the future meaning One must secure up the future.
Has your objective always been to play in Europe?
yes, I have always wanted to play in Europe. It was my first objective. Many clubs in Africa wanted my signature to play for them . Big clubs like TP Mazembe , Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa, Raja Casablanca (in Morocco). But I chose Djurgården before those clubs. For I am certain about the club being the good place to start befote moving to to other bigger European clubs, So if I do a good season in Djurgården, then can go to bigger clubs in Europe.
You have the first training Today , and a game on Saturday against (Örebro). Can you play that game?
Yes. If they give me the opportunity to play, then i can represent the club, absolutely . I will do my very best if I get the opportunity.
