The wife of former Chelsea and Black Stars midfield icon Micheal Essien, Mrs Akosua Puni Essien has bought Italian third division side Como Calcio 1907.
The official announcement was made on the club’s official website bringing to an end the uncertainty over the clubs future after it was declared bankrupt last year a move which saw them suffer relegation from the Serie B.
“Football Como is pleased to announce that the Club has a new property. As it has just been confirmed by the court,which has verified the requirements, we are pleased to announce, to the city of Como, to all the fans and supporters of the Club, Mrs.Akousa Puni Essien is the new owner of Calcio Como 1907, called from now F.C. Como.”
Mrs Essien who is a businesswoman and philanthropist bought the club in the fourth auction held by the tribunal for the sale of the club for about £237 000 and equivalent of $3.3billion.
The club has been in existence for 110 years and last participated in the Serie A in the 2002/2003 season
