Uganda Cranes coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic has called it quits. The Serbian terminated his contract Saturday after failed talks with Ugandan FA over his future.
“FUFA up to last evening never showed any interest in sorting out things, and so I have agreed with my agent Ivica Stankovic to practically terminate the contract,” Micho said.
Micho’s future as Uganda Cranes boss has been doubtful ever since he guided the East Africans to their first ever AFCON qualification in Gabon 2017 in 39-years.
It became more apparent he was on his way out after he came out in public last week and said if FUFA will not pay his salary arrears then he will resign.
He made the statement days after guided a home based side to the last round of qualification to the CHAN 2018 with a convincing 5-1 win over South Sudan in Kampala.
Micho will be remembered for taking Uganda to the Gabon AFCON 2017 after a 39-year wait. He also managed to qualify the Cranes to the group stage of the 2018 Russia World Cup.
Micho joined the Cranes in 2013 from Rwanda where he coached the Amavubi, to replace Scotsman Bobby Williamson, who had twice failed to reach the AFCON.
He thanked the then FUFA President Lawrence Mulindwa for giving him the opportunity to steer the Cranes and current President Mr. Moses Magogo for keeping him on the job.
“Thank you Mr. Mulindwa for bringing me here and thank you Mr. Magogo for maintaining me here.”
Micho has been linked with Orlando Pirates job in the South Africa’s topflight.
