Mighty Al Ahly thumped sworn enemies Zamalek 2-0 in the Egyptian Premier League final day fixture at Borg El Arab Stadium, Alexandria Monday night.

The season finale also served as the coronation day of the Red Devils, who had secured the title for the second year running for a record 39th time.

The derby, which is one of the biggest and fiercest in the continent, lacked fanfare due to the long standing government’s ban on fans.

Walid Soliman broke the deadlock in the 41 minutes before Junior Ajayi sealed the sweet victory on the dot.

The loss compounded Zamalek’s slow season as they finish third and miss out on slot in next year’s CAF Champions League.

Al Ahly and Misr Elmaqasah, who finished runners-up will represent the country in the premium continental club championship next year.
