By Bonface Osano,
Gor Mahia dismissed Muhoroni Youth 1-0 to record their 10th win of the season as they maintained top spot in the Kenyan premier league log with 33 points from 13 matches played so far .
In a match hosted by Muhoroni Youth on Sunday 24th at Kisumu’s Moi Stadium, Michael Olunga continued with his brilliant form netting the opener just nine minutes into the first half.
The lanky poacher had earlier on missed an open chance in the fourth minute firing marginally wide on the right after being put through by Khalid Aucho.
The hosts settled well thereafter managing to keep the ball away from Gor Mahia hence frustrating their movement forward with Abass Akinyemi plying the midfield like a colossus.
Muhoroni Youth skipper Abass Akinyemi had the first honor of testing Gor’s keeper Bonface Oluoch in the 21st minute but his shot he hit the side net.
Victor Abondo almost doubled Gor’s lead in the 28th minute but his stinging shot was tipped over the bar by Muhoroni Youth’s keeper Daniel Kiptoo for a resultant wasted corner.
The play was mostly concentrated in the midfielder with limited movement forward and the match headed into the breather with the visitors enjoying the slim lead.
Muhoroni Youth came back stronger in the second half and Jeremiah Wanjala should have put matters level in 58th minute but he failed to punish Karim Nizigiyimana ‘ s poor back pass to keeper Bonface Oluoch who came out just in time to collect the ball.
Ali Abondo for the second time in the match was denied by the wood work off Olunga’s cross from the left.
Muhoroni Youth keeper Kiptoo who had a good game denied Olunga’s his second in the 84th pulling a wonderful save just inside the box.Muhoroni Youth remains 13th in the log with 11 points.
