Champions Mighty Gor Mahia popularly known as” Wuon Timbe,Kogalo” beat Tusker by a solitary goal to open a 12 point lead at the top of the Kenyan Premier League and enforce their march towards their 15th title.
At 39, unbeaten and ten consecutive clean sheets, Gor Mahia have set a league record of unbeaten runs and clean sheets.
But the manner in which they pounded on Tusker’s goalmouth especially in the second half told of a story of a hungry side out for maximum points at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu where fans came in their hundreds giving the team support for the entire game in a sweet atmosphere that saw some very exciting and good football played.
Meddie Kagere got into the way of Karim Nzigiriyama cross to head past Martin Musalia who had constantly stopped Gor Mahia’s attacks.
The champions dominated the second half, severally coming close to score but they were either repulsed by the Tusker stocky defence or hawk eyed Musalia who was playing his first game since moving to Tusker from AFC Leopards where he terminated his contract on February.
Gor were the better side leading on all statistics and they deserved the win.
But they should thank referee Nassur Doka for not sending off captain Musa Mohammed who upended Jesse Were as he raced towards goal early in the first half.
Were’s earlier opportunity was stopped by goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch, a former Tusker keeper who has now kept ten successive clean sheets.
Those were the only chances Tusker had and K’Ogalo came back firing in all cylinders missing chance after chance until Kagere headed home a 77th minute cross from Nzigiriyimana.
Three points Gor gained from the game and they have now set a record points gained in 15 games in the KPL.
They lead with 39 points, twelve ahead of Sofapaka who play AFC Leopards on Sunday.
