opening match on Monday 17 August. They were provided a decent
performance against the Burundians taking the lead early in the game
when Amwayi
finally opened the scores in the 12th minute with a decent left footed
strike from Makwatta’s pass. It was a perfect gift for Amwayi who had
seen his volley go inches wide a few minutes before from Makwatta’s
corner.
Ulinzi scored their second in the 44th minute of the match, Makwatta
slamming home from the edge of the box from Amwoka’s pass.
Though Burundi came back stronger in the second half, Ulinzi managed
to keep the attacking tempo just as coach Robert Matano had demanded
at half time. Amwoka should have scored in the 70th minute but his tap
from Makwatta’s low pass inside the box went over.
He was rewarded though in the 78th minute when he stretched in to
connect a beautiful flick from Churchill Muloma who had picked up
Amwayi’s low cross. Muloma was however sent off in the 89th minute for
a second yellow card.
